They said about 2 years ago that this year would be the last season. It is sad :'( but I don't see how they could make more cuz of the storyline that it is following like you said (btw I loveee season 8 so far and I can't wait till tomorrow's episode!!). Recently the NEW producers said they were hopeful for a season 9, but it was not likely. It is said that Clark might be able to fly by the season's end, but that is not a definite. But I agree it would be better to just reinvent Smallville into a different show. Like say Justice League. Then they could start introducing all the DC villains through out the series. I think what ever they do they need to stop a lot of this soap opera crap and get back to the comics combined with realism type show. I think they could do more seasons.
