What happened to lana’s character on smallville?

 I haven’t watched it in a long time and when I started to watch it tonight, Lana and Lex’s Characters aren’t on there anymore. Please fill me in! Thanks |

At the end of Season 7, Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum didn’t renew their contracts, though Kristin did make a guest appearance this past Thursday for the mid-season cliffhanger.
Here’s what happened to Lex:
In Season 7, there’d been hidden secrets revealed about an elite society called Veritas, founded partly by Dr. Virgil Swann. They spoke of the coming of “The Traveler;” an alien who would possess superhuman abilities (Clark obviously). Their job was to protect the Traveler, but most of the members died and Lex caught on to this secret and set out to find a way to control the Traveler.
Lex’s digging eventually led him to find the pieces he needed to activate an extraterrestrial orb which showed him coordinates in the Arctic where the Traveler’s Fortress is. Clark didn’t take the threat seriously enough and by the time Clark intercepted Lex at his Fortress, Lex already had the tool he needed to control Clark. Season 7 ended with Lex activating the orb, which caused the Fortress to collapse all around them.
Season 8 opened with Lex’s right hand girl, Tess Mercer trying to find Lex. He’s been missing throughout Season 8 and last night’s episode showed the back of a bald man’s head, attached to cables and watching a video of Clark and company during Doomsday’s destructive rampage. Presumably, this is Lex and it showed the fans that, yes, he’s still alive (…though the cables attached to him suggest that he’s far from 100%).
Here’s what happened to Lana:
Brainiac cornered Lana and infected her mind, turning her into a white-eyed zombie, living in a quiet, catatonic state, but suffering excruciating pain inside. To save Lana, Clark had to destroy Braniac which, for the moment at the end of Season 7, he accomplished. Once Lana was snapped out of Brainiac’s deep sleep, Lana decided that it would be better for Clark and for the world if she wasn’t in his life.
Lana, wise to Clark’s secret, realized during Season 7 that Clark was staying in Smallville because he had everything that HE wanted. In essence, he had no reason to entertain ideas of protecting the world, now that he had the girl of his dreams and no reason to rock the boat. Lana never wanted to hold him back, but her very presence in his life was hindering him from being everything he was destined to be.
Lana left him a teary good-bye DVD at the end of Season 7 saying that though she will always love him, the world needs him more. Lana disappeared and remained hidden in Season 8 until last night’s episode where she showed up unexpectedly at Chloe’s wedding. She interrupted what would have been Clark and Lois’s first real kiss.
I hear that Michael Rosenbaum will NOT be appearing at all in Season 8 unless it’s part of a flashback sequence or something, but Kristin Kreuk will likely appear in a couple more episodes this season. Michael left to try to get himself back into movies and Kristin had a filming obligation for the new Street Fighter movie, hence the reasons why they were mostly written out of Smallville.
